DR RACHEL CAREY
Lecturer in Food Systems, University of Melbourne
Dr Rachel Carey is a Lecturer in Food Systems in the Faculty of Veterinary and Agricultural Sciences at the University of Melbourne, where she teaches food policy and sustainable food systems.
Rachel’s research focuses on the resilience of city food systems in the face of growing challenges from population growth, urban sprawl, climate change and water scarcity.
She leads the Foodprint Melbourne research project, which is investigating ways to strengthen the resilience of Melbourne’s food system to shocks and stresses related to climate change and pandemic.
Rachel is a member of the Melbourne Food Alliance and worked on the development of food policies for the City of Melbourne and the City of Greater Geelong. Rachel has a PhD from the University of Manchester and an MSc in Food Policy from City University, London.
